Vessels of Decay is a retro-inspired action-adventure game being developed by Simon Jakobsson and Aurora Punks, with publishing handled by Headup. The official trailer premiered during The MIX | Kinda Funny Spring Showcase, highlighting its unique combination of pixel-art aesthetics and a post-apocalyptic story.

The game’s plot is set in a post-apocalyptic Scandinavia, where civilization has collapsed and nature has reclaimed the ruins, but something more ominous has awakened with it. Ancient creatures from Norse myths and folklore have returned and roam the decaying world. The story follows a brother and sister, Freja and Mud, as they fight their way through this overgrown, monster-filled world.

Combat is one of the key features of the game, where you have freedom in eliminating enemies. You can also disable opponents to execute special, impressive finishing moves. The hand-crafted pixel world is designed for exploration, with richly detailed environments that capture its eerie beauty. Multi-phase battles against creatures from folklore require quick reflexes and strategic thinking, as these creatures do not give up easily.

The game is set to be released in 2025 on multiple platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and GOG. A public playtest is currently available on Steam, open to anyone who requests access.
