The first new game in the Heroes of Might and Magic franchise since 2015, Olden Era, is coming to Early Access during the summer of 2025. The release date announcement was made during the Triple-i Initiative Showcase, along with a new cinematic trailer hinting at a completely different, darker story. The game was first presented at Gamescom 2024 and will be available exclusively on PC via Steam.

According to the official description, the plot is set on the continent of Jadam, where conflicts among supposed protectors escalate into bloody chaos. As wars spread, an evil force awakens in the shadows, ready to exploit the situation to impose its rule in the name of its master. Specifically, this is a prequel set before the events of the original Heroes of Might and Magic from 1995, and Ubisoft promises a deeper insight into the origins of the familiar world.

While Ubisoft remains the publisher, Olden Era is the first game in the series to be fully developed by the studio Unfrozen. After a long hiatus, this is the eighth installment in the series, but with a fresh perspective that returns to the franchise’s roots. The Early Access version will provide your first look at the strategy, combat, and story that promises to be true to the spirit of the original but with a modern approach.
