Fans of games like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Dead by Daylight, and Escape the Backrooms will feel right at home with Macabre, a new co-op stealth extraction horror game from developer Weforge Studio. If you’re looking for a fresh take on the genre to enjoy with friends, Macabre might just be the perfect game to shake things up. It’s officially coming to Steam Early Access on September 29, 2025.

In Macabre, you and your teammates are trapped in a collapsing time rift, hunted by a interdimensional creature known as the Crawler. The monster adapts to how you play, so no two sessions are ever the same. You’ll need to scavenge for resources, sneak past dangers, and fight to survive with the help of an NPC Banjo. The game’s constantly changing maps and objectives, along with its intense co-op extraction, guarantee high replayability and a constant feeling of tension.

You can play with a team of up to four or challenge the Rift by yourself. Your goal is to scavenge for rare resources and extract them before the timeline collapses. To keep things new, the game includes dynamic weather and new monster behaviors. As you complete objectives, you’ll unlock new maps and monsters throughout the Early Access period.

According to Game Director Jake Davey, the Early Access phase is crucial for refining Macabre alongside the player community: “The adaptive AI, procedural systems, and high-stakes co-op are built to surprise, but this launch is just the beginning. We will expand with new maps, monsters, and mechanics guided by community feedback.”

With over 250,000 wishlists on Steam, Macabre has already proven its popularity. The game’s demo was also a big hit during the last Steam Next Fest, where it ranked among the top 50 most-played titles.
