A surprise sequel has been teased for the acclaimed Trails series. While Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, a remake of the 2004 JRPG, isn’t officially out until September 19, some players have already discovered a post-credits teaser. The trailer points to a remake of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC, which will presumably be titled Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter.
The remake of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter modernizes the original with a new engine from the more recent Trails Through Daybreak games. It features better 3D visuals, refined gameplay mechanics, and new English and Japanese voiceovers. The story follows bracers-in-training Estelle and Joshua Bright, who embark on quests that quickly escalate into a conspiracy threatening the kingdom of Liberl.
The remake introduces a hybrid combat system, allowing players to switch between traditional turn-based battles and a new real-time action mode. Additional content is also planned, including a Nintendo Switch 2-specific upgrade pack and post-launch cosmetic DLC. The game will be available for PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Switch, and PC via Steam.
It appears at the end of the credits or as unlockable content, showing brief footage of key elements from SC, such as updated visuals for characters like Estelle and Joshua, new locations, and hints at the story’s continuation (involving deeper conspiracies, airship adventures, and revelations about Joshua’s past). A fan-uploaded version of the trailer surfaced on YouTube around the same time, titled “NEW: Trails In The Sky SC Remake – Teaser Trailer,” confirming the remake’s development.
