December 2025 turned out to be a strong finish for indie games, according to new data from GameDiscoverCo. Instead of slowing down, the scene delivered a mix of unique ideas and long-awaited sequels, led by two very different releases. One focused on quiet, nerve-wracking horror, while the other leaned into cold weather, car repairs, and pure survival.
Taking the top spot for the month was Don’t Scream Together, a cooperative expansion of the viral horror game built around microphone detection. The launch was far from smooth, with sound issues causing frustration early on. Still, the developers acted fast, shared clear updates, and rolled out fixes in quick succession. The game has now passed 300,000 copies sold, showing that its core idea, where making noise resets the experience, still connects strongly with streaming audiences and groups of friends.
Right behind it at number two was My Winter Car, the long-awaited follow-up to cult favorite My Summer Car. Released late in December, it quickly climbed close to 400,000 units sold. The sequel keeps the series’ focus on detailed car building and harsh survival, but shifts the setting to a deadly Finnish winter. The result has been a wave of praise, especially for its deeper realism and new systems built around body temperature and cold exposure.
Beyond new releases, December also proved that older-style design still has a place. Guild Wars Reforged and the long-in-development Ashes of Creation both saw major attention during the month, pulling in large audiences. Their success points to a growing interest in deep worlds, long-term progression, and classic MMO ideas.
The month closed out with two smaller titles that continue to gain momentum into January 2026. A Game About Feeding A Black Hole surprised many by becoming a quiet hit, offering a calm but hard-to-put-down clicker loop. At the same time, Alchemy Factory has been steadily growing its audience by mixing fantasy crafting with complex automation systems. With sales now passing 25,000 copies and a “Very Positive” rating, it has carved out a clear place in the factory-building space.
Other notable releases included in the GameDiscoverCo data are also Outhold (84,6K), Tingus Goose (81,8K), Unbeatable (77,8K) and MineMogul (77,8K).
