A lesser-known PlayStation classic is getting a surprising revival, but not in the way many might expect. Hard Edge: War Zone, an upcoming remake from Sunsoft, reimagines the 1998 title Hard Edge with a completely different gameplay direction, shifting from its original survival-action roots into a competitive, team-based experience. Currently planned for release on PC via Steam in 2026.

The original Hard Edge leaned heavily into cyberpunk themes and was often compared to early Resident Evil titles, featuring a group of agents navigating a dangerous skyscraper filled with enemies, traps, and conspiracies. This remake, however, takes a new approach by transforming the concept into a 4v4 real-time tactical card battler, placing a strong emphasis on multiplayer combat, strategy, and coordination.

Gameplay revolves around deck-building and team synergy. You construct decks before matches, with cards representing a wide range of actions, from ranged weapons like assault rifles and snipers to grenades, melee attacks, defensive tools, and support abilities. Matches play out in turns, but teammates act simultaneously, opening the door for coordinated plays such as flanking maneuvers or combined attacks.

The game features two main modes: Capture the Flag, which focuses on securing data disks and strategic positioning, and Team Deathmatch, a more straightforward mode centered on eliminations. With support for up to eight players in 4v4 matches, the experience blends the tension of tactical shooters with the planning depth of card-based systems, all set within a cyberpunk setting.
