If you’ve been thinking about buying a Switch 2 but kept putting it off, this might be the moment to stop waiting. Nintendo has officially confirmed that the console’s price is going up later this year, and the increase is hitting pretty much every major region.
The new pricing takes effect on September 1, 2026, which gives players a few months to grab the system before the higher cost kicks in. In the United States, the Switch 2 will jump from $449.99 to $499.99. Canada is getting a similar increase, pushing the console up to $679.99 CAD, while Europe will see the price rise to €499.99.
The announcement doesn’t come completely out of nowhere. Industry analysts had been warning for months that Nintendo would probably need to adjust pricing eventually. Rising component costs, especially memory chips, along with ongoing supply chain issues, tariffs, and broader economic pressure have been affecting the entire gaming industry.
Online reactions have been mixed, but not especially shocked. A lot of players are mostly relieved they bought the system earlier, while others are encouraging friends to pick one up before September arrives. Some fans have also pointed out that compared to previous price increases from Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo’s adjustment feels a bit more restrained, and at least the company is giving people several months of warning instead of quietly changing prices overnight.
Realistically, this probably won’t stop the Switch 2 from selling well, especially with Nintendo’s lineup continuing to grow. But it does show how much the gaming industry is being affected by rising production costs right now. Even companies with massively successful hardware aren’t immune to the pressure anymore.
