If you’ve been waiting for a good excuse to try Path of Exile 2, this might be it. Grinding Gear Games is opening the gates with a free weekend running from May 29 to June 1, giving players a chance to dive into the game’s latest content expansion, Return of the Ancients, without spending a cent.
Return of the Ancients is one of the biggest updates Path of Exile 2 has received so far, introducing the new Runes of Aldur challenge league alongside a substantial overhaul of the endgame experience. Players can take on league challenges to unlock pieces of the Knight of Aldur armor set and other cosmetic rewards, all without affecting gameplay balance.
Beyond the new league, the update significantly reshapes progression for veteran players. The Atlas Tree has been completely reworked, crafting options have expanded, and several powerful new Unique items have been added to the loot pool. Grinding Gear Games is also introducing two new Ascendancy classes, the Martial Artist and Spirit Walker, giving you even more ways to experiment with character builds.
The update isn’t only aimed at hardcore endgame players. Campaign replayability has been improved, a new Build Planner has been added, and several quality-of-life enhancements are designed to make character progression smoother than before.
For players who decide they want to stick around after the free weekend, there’s another incentive. From May 29 to June 12, the Early Access Supporter Pack will be available at a 50% discount on Steam. The package includes full access to the game as well as 150 points for the in-game store.
