Developer Terahard Studios officially revealed RuneSmith during the Indie Quest 2026 Showcase, and it immediately stands out thanks to its mix of tactical combat, rune crafting, tavern brawls, and surprisingly hilarious writing. You play as a deeply offended dwarf blacksmith hunting down an all-powerful villain for one very important reason: he still owes you money.
At the center of the game is its rune-smithing system, which lets you forge weapons, armor, and unstable magical combinations that can completely change how battles unfold. Simple status effects can spiral into ridiculous chain reactions, with poison clouds, explosive combinations, and drunken combat mechanics all becoming part of the strategy.
Combat itself is turn-based, but the focus seems to be on experimentation and creativity rather than rigid optimization. The battlefield can quickly become unpredictable depending on what runes and effects players combine together. Outside of combat, players will spend time exploring fantasy towns, ruins, taverns, mines, and dungeons while recruiting a group of equally questionable adventurers.
RuneSmith does not have a release date yet, but the Steam page is now live following its Indie Quest reveal.
