Microsoft has confirmed that Senua, the next entry in Ninja Theory’s psychological action series, remains in active development despite the sweeping restructuring currently affecting Xbox Game Studios. The announcement comes after widespread speculation that the project could be at risk following Microsoft’s recent layoffs and studio reorganization.

Concerns emerged after Xbox unveiled major changes to its gaming division, including thousands of job cuts and significant changes to several first-party studios. With Ninja Theory among the developers affected, many fans questioned whether the studio’s upcoming project would survive the restructuring.

However, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma directly addressed the situation in an internal memo shared publicly, confirming that Senua has not been canceled:

“None of our first party publicly announced games or projects are being cancelled as part of these reductions. Ninja Theory and Undead Labs have entered terms to join new ownership with funding to complete and grow Senua and State of Decay 3.”

The statement confirms that Ninja Theory will transition to new ownership while receiving financial backing to complete development of Senua. Although the studio will no longer remain part of Microsoft’s first-party portfolio, work on the game is expected to continue without interruption.

The project is currently targeting a 2027 release window, and Microsoft’s announcement indicates that the restructuring will not affect those plans. It will launch on Xbox Series X|S, PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Pass, cloud streaming services, and PlayStation 5.
