Nintendo has officially outlined its plans to introduce revised Switch 2 hardware across Europe, confirming that selected products will begin shipping with user-replaceable batteries in response to the European Union’s Right to Repair legislation and new battery regulations.
According to Nintendo, the rollout will begin this summer and continue in phases through early 2027. While the updated devices will feature replaceable batteries, the company emphasized that there are no changes to functionality, ensuring players will receive the same gaming experience regardless of which version they purchase.
The first products to receive the updated design will be the Joy-Con controllers, arriving during the summer. The revised Switch 2 console is scheduled to reach retailers in autumn, followed by the Pro Controller during winter, while updated Nintendo 64 and GameCube controllers are expected in early 2027.
Nintendo also shared several hardware changes accompanying the new battery designs. While the Joy-Con controllers retain the same battery capacity, the Switch 2 console will feature a battery roughly 1% smaller than the current model, alongside a slight weight increase of approximately 10 grams. The Switch 2 Pro Controller sees the most significant adjustment, with a battery capacity reduced by around 16%.
The company noted that availability will vary by country, explaining that revised products may not launch simultaneously across all European markets. Nintendo added that production schedules and retailer stock levels could also affect the rollout timeline.
Alongside the Switch 2 revisions, Nintendo quietly confirmed another major change. Beginning in mid-February 2027, the company will stop producing and supplying the original Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED to retailers in Europe.
