Originally released in 2010, Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse is the final chapter in Telltale’s acclaimed Sam & Max adventure game trilogy. Now, it has been lovingly remastered by a small team who worked on the original. This remastered version will be available on PC (Steam & GOG), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on August 14.
Max has always been the more unhinged member of the Freelance Police, a lovable lunatic with a knack for spreading chaos wherever he goes. Recently, his abilities have taken a supernatural turn. It all started when he stumbled upon a mysterious toy that allows him to glimpse the future. Now, Sam and Max have attracted the attention of a host of villains from across the galaxy who are determined to acquire the magical Toys of Power. As those who seek the Devil’s Toybox close in and Max’s psychic abilities grow beyond his control, the Freelance Police will face their most frightening adversary yet: the power of Max’s mind.
Skunkape Games, a small team of former Telltale Games employees, acquired the rights to Telltale’s Sam & Max games after the noted episodic game developer shut down in 2018. They have spent the past five years bringing the series up to modern standards with updated graphics, lighting, lip-sync, cinematography, and music. Many of the game’s environments have been overhauled with more detail, content cut during the initial development has been restored, and numerous bugs present in the original episodes have been fixed.
The Nutri-Specs, a mysterious Toy of Power that only appeared in the PlayStation 3 version, will now available to all players. The remaster is also more comfortable to play thanks to new point-and-click mouse controls, user interface refinements, and accessibility settings.
