During the Hello Sunshine Deep Dive segment at the Future Games Show Spring Showcase 2026, Norwegian studio Red Thread Games offered a closer look at its upcoming survival RPG Hello Sunshine. Creative director Ragnar Tørnquist and game director Jonathan Nielssen walked us through the game’s world, story, and systems, highlighting a distinctive survival loop built around an unlikely companion: a towering war machine that may be the player’s only chance of survival.

Set in the sun-scorched ruins of a fallen corporate empire known as Sunshine, Hello Sunshine places players in the role of the “final employee,” a lone survivor wandering a desert wasteland filled with malfunctioning machines that never shut down.

Your journey is guided by a mysterious objective: reach an impossibly tall white tower visible on the horizon, where the fate of humanity may be decided. Along the way, you will uncover buried corporate secrets, piece together your own identity, and slowly learn the story behind the massive robot walking beside them.

The game blends survival mechanics, crafting, exploration, and light RPG progression with a narrative mystery at its core. During the day, the desert heat becomes deadly, forcing players to travel in the protective shadow of the giant robot that acts as both guardian and mobile base.

Stepping outside that shadow can lead to better loot, but also greater danger from drones and environmental hazards. At night, the robot halts at abandoned Sunshine service stations to recharge, creating moments of respite where you can cook, craft equipment, upgrade the robot, and deploy small helper bots to gather resources or defend the camp.

You can wishlist the game on Steam and sign up for the playtests starting soon.
