Studio Cima has announced that its story-driven action platformer The Perfect Pencil will launch on PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch on January 29, 2026. The game offers a psychological journey inspired by the creator’s own struggles, giving you an experience that is both personal and symbolic.
At its core, the game is shaped by the creator’s real battle with anxiety. This personal foundation gives the world a dreamlike quality, where inner fears take physical form. The story becomes a way for players to face difficult emotions in a safe and imaginative space, reflecting their own worries through the main character’s challenges.
Players follow John, who wakes up in a strange kingdom filled with creatures born from his inner thoughts. John has a special ability to analyze the world around him, revealing hidden information about characters, objects, and the environment. Because everything in the game is hand-drawn, each detail carries meaning, encouraging you to look closely and rethink what you see as you uncover new secrets.
John’s inner struggles also come to life through intense boss battles. Each boss is a monstrous representation of a different part of the human psyche. These fights are meant to be demanding, pushing players to take risks and sometimes question what is real.
