Ten Years Later, Just Cause 3 Still Stands as an One of the Best Open-World Titles

Ten years ago today, in 2015, Just Cause 3 launched on PC and delivered one of the most over-the-top open-world action experiences of its generation. Developed by Avalanche Studios, the game pushed the series’ trademark chaos to new heights, giving players a massive Mediterranean playground packed with enemies, vehicles, physics tricks, and no shortage of explosive opportunities.

Just Cause 3 takes place on the fictional island of Medici, where Rico Rodriguez returns to free his homeland from the control of the dictator General Di Ravello. The story sets up the adventure, but the real focus is the open world and all the crazy things players can do in it. Medici’s beaches, mountains, towns, and military bases are full of places to explore, destroy, and turn into your own action playground.

One of the biggest new features is the wingsuit, which quickly became a fan favorite. When combined with Rico’s grappling hook and parachute, players can fly across the island with a sense of freedom that few open-world games offered at the time. Moving around becomes fun all on its own, pushing players to jump off cliffs, hook onto passing helicopters, and make their own risky but exciting routes through the world.

Explosions are at the center of the game. Fuel tanks, bridges, radar towers, and even entire enemy bases can be blown up in huge, cinematic blasts. The game encourages players to get creative, using the tether system to connect objects or set up big chain reactions. It becomes a giant sandbox where physics, chaos, and imagination all mix together in fun and unpredictable ways.

The PC version started out demanding, but over time it became one of the best ways to enjoy the game. Stronger hardware, better performance, and mod support helped players experience Medici at its full scale, with higher settings, faster loading, and smoother frame rates.
