One of the most influential puzzle adventure games of the early CD-ROM era is making a comeback. The 7th Guest Remake was officially revealed during the Future Games Show Spring Showcase 2026, bringing a modern reimagining of the classic 1993 adventure to today’s platforms.

Developed and published by Vertigo Games, the project is a completely new non-VR remake of the original The 7th Guest created by Trilobyte. While Vertigo Games previously released a VR version in 2023, this new remake is designed as a traditional single-player experience built for consoles and PC.

The story remains faithful to the original. Players arrive at the eerie Victorian mansion of the mysterious toy-maker Henry Stauf, where six guests have been invited under strange circumstances. As the night unfolds, guests begin to disappear and dark secrets about the house and its host slowly emerge. Players explore the decaying estate room by room, solving intricate puzzles while uncovering the story behind the mansion and the identity of the mysterious “seventh guest.”

The remake preserves the puzzle-driven gameplay and unsettling atmosphere that made the original famous, but modernizes the presentation. The mansion has been rebuilt as a fully explorable 3D environment featuring more than twenty rooms, while the narrative once again uses live-action performances inspired by the full-motion video sequences that were groundbreaking at the time of the original release.

When the first game launched in 1993, it became one of the titles that helped popularize CD-ROM gaming alongside Myst, even receiving praise from Bill Gates for its technological achievements. The remake aims to bring that same eerie mansion mystery to modern audiences with updated visuals, controls, and presentation while staying true to the original experience.

The 7th Guest Remake is currently planned for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
