Devolver Digital and Behaviour Interactive have officially announced Serious Sam: Shatterverse, a new entry in the long-running first-person shooter series coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. While a release date has not yet been confirmed, the reveal signals a significant evolution for the franchise, introducing roguelite mechanics and a multiverse-driven narrative to the series’ signature high-intensity action.

In Shatterverse, iconic protagonist Serious Sam Stone returns, but this time he is joined by alternate versions of himself from across fractured realities. The story centers on the collapse of the multiverse caused by the series’ long-standing antagonist, Mental, whose influence now spans multiple dimensions. Players take on the role of a member of the “Serious Program,” a force tasked with restoring balance by traveling between worlds, confronting different timelines, and defeating five powerful lieutenants who stand in the way.

Gameplay builds on the franchise’s classic run-and-gun formula while introducing new systems designed for replayability. Players will wield a mix of traditional weapons and new experimental tools, while unlocking upgrades, boons, and modifiers that alter each run. The roguelite structure ensures that death is not the end, encouraging players to refine strategies and adapt to increasingly chaotic scenarios shaped by shifting environments, hidden anomalies, and high-risk opportunities.
