BEFORE I GO is an upcoming Metroidvania game developed and published as a solo project by Jérôme Coppens, the creator behind J’s Labratory, a small studio based in Dunkirk, France. With almost 15 years of experience in the video game industry, Coppens has been working full-time on this project since 2021.

The game is officially set to release on April 13, 2026. It will launch on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The release date was revealed alongside a new trailer that highlighted the game’s combat, precise platforming, and dark, bleak atmosphere.

In BEFORE I GO, you take control of an inner child trapped in limbo, moving through a symbolic journey toward the acceptance of death. The story explores themes of life, fear, loss, and peace, using quiet symbolism instead of direct explanations.

Gameplay focuses on a skill-based side-scrolling action platformer that draws from classic Metroidvania design. Players explore a large, interconnected world with multiple paths, secrets, and dangerous areas. Platforming plays a major role and demands precise timing and full control, while combat puts players against hostile parasitic creatures that offer little room for mistakes.

You can already try BEFORE I GO through a free demo available on Steam. The demo was recently updated with major improvements and offers a clear look at the game’s difficulty, movement, and overall feel.
