Stellaris: Nexus appears to be Paradox's take on Twilight Imperium

Stellaris Nexus is a tabletop/social strategy game that provides the entirety of the 4X genre experience in about an hour. Choose your unique faction and leader, challenge up to 5 other players, and plan, fight, and tactically oppose each other to rule the galaxy.

If you are not familiar enough with Stellaris or the game seemed too demanding, you can look forward to the shortened and accelerated version - Stellaris Nexus. This version of the legendary space simulator emphasizes fast-paced tactical and strategic elements instead of a deep story. It speeds up the game in a variety of ways, such as using turn timers, transforming spaceship combat into a complex round of rock-scissors-paper, and applying card-game-like mechanics to crafting, researching, and building.

The Stellaris Nexus Early Access version provides single and multiplayer support, allowing offline and online play. It also provides the ability to find teammates based on skills and includes a single-player story with the first four missions. In succession mode, all contestants fight for points that can be gained by, among other things, claiming the title of the Nexus, the central throne.

The full version of the game is expected to introduce ranked mode, additional factions and leaders, a campaign with a full story, and plenty of new research techniques, construction projects, diplomatic plots, fleets of spaceships, research events, game titles and resolutions.

Whatboy, the studio developing the game, predicts that the Nexus will be available in early access for six months, while version 1.0 will have a higher price tag. The game is available on Steam.
