Medieval Survival Game Renown Launches to Negative Reviews Amidst Server Issues

Share:

After a successful Kickstarter and a series of well-received community playtests, the long-anticipated medieval PvP survival builder Renown has officially launched on Steam. Developed by RDBK Studios, the game is available for 22.99 € with a 10% launch discount. However, despite reaching a peak of 2,500 concurrent players, the launch has been met with mostly negative reviews from the community.

Renown’s ambitious premise throws up to 100 players into open-world servers. Here, they must gather resources, build powerful strongholds, and lead their clans in skill-based combat. The game promises a mechanically precise medieval warfare experience, allowing players to construct vast castles, engineer powerful siege weapons, and engage in a wide range of combat, from one-on-one duels to large-scale battles.

Unfortunately, early player experiences have been marred by significant technical problems. According to initial reviews, the game is facing ISSUES with “optimization and server problems,” which have made it “nearly unplayable.” One review noted that these were the same issues present in earlier playtests, expressing disappointment that they were not addressed for the official launch.

In response to the feedback, the RDBK team issued an apology to anyone experiencing problems. They acknowledged reports of players being kicked to the main menu and having issues with Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) not loading properly. While the team believes they have identified the cause of the problem, they stated that they are reaching out to Epic Games, which owns the anti-cheat software, as they cannot fix it without their assistance.
