Sacred 2 Remaster Arrives in November – Is It Worth It?

Share:

I haven’t played the original Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, but I’ve been wanting a new ARPG to bring back some nostalgia. Since remasters are popular and getting better and better, I figure I should maybe check Sacred 2 Remaster out. However, with THQ Nordic behind it, I’m definitely a bit skeptical. The game costs 20 euros on PC (Steam) but jumps to 30 on consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X/S). So, the big question is: Is it worth the price?

A Look at Sacred 2: Fallen Angel and What the Remaster Brings to the Battle

With the game releasing on November 11th, we have about a month to decide. That same week brings major competition like Where Winds Meet, Anno 117: Pax Romana, and Devolver’s Possessor(s), so we can afford to be picky. For fans who love deep worlds and endless fights, this might be the perfect return trip to Ancaria.

To understand if the remaster is worth it, let’s briefly look at the 2008 original Sacred 2: Fallen Angel. It threw you into a massive open world where runaway T-Energy had caused chaos, spreading wars and monsters. You could chose one of six heroes, each with unique skills and storylines, and had freedom to explore, do quest, fight, and build your character. The game was known for its huge map full of secrets and a great balance of solo and online co-op play.

Sacred 2 Remaster breathes new life into the beloved classic with smoother combat, a modern interface, full controller support, and improved visuals. But not everything was perfect. For starters, combat felt slow and clunky, with fights dragging on because enemies grew stronger as you did, making progress feel flat at times. For hardcore fans, though, it became a cult hit, full of hours of grinding and exploring that no other game quite matched.

Do the Sacred 2 Remaster’s Upgrades Justify Its Price Tag?

Now, the remaster steps in to fix those old problems while keeping the heart of the game alive. Developers have also packed in all the expansions from the original, so you get the full story without missing anything. Luckily, combat in the remsaster version got tuned-up, feeling quicker and more responsive, which should make those long battles less of a chore.

The online features also return, allowing for both co-op and competitive play. However, no remaster is without risks. Some worry the changes aren’t enough to help it compete with modern ARPGs like Diablo or Path of Exile. The core loop of looting and leveling may still feel dated, and if you disliked the original’s sometimes tough pacing, these updates might not fully change your mind.

Given the changes, the price feels fair for the value offered. This remaster looks like a great pick if you enjoy deep ARPGs set in a massive fantasy world. It keeps all the best parts of the original, while successfully fixing its weaknesses. At 20 € for PC, it’s a simple choice for genre fans, and the 30 € console price is still strongly supported by the quality of the upgrades.
