Absolum, the original IP from Dotemu, Guard Crush Games, and Supamonks, just released the free “Threads of Fate” update, which expands its systems in ways that could keep players fighting against tyranny for months to come. Available now on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4, Absolum has positioned itself as a modern rethinking of arcade brawling.
Rather than relying solely on difficulty and linear progression, it builds its identity around run-based structure, spell systems, counters, and layered character customization. The Threads of Fate update reinforces that philosophy by introducing new modes, expanded campaign elements, and sweeping quality-of-life improvements.
The centerpiece of the update is Mystic Ordeal, a demanding new game mode unlocked after completing the main quest. Designed as a high-stakes challenge arena, Mystic Ordeal introduces dozens of gameplay modifiers that dramatically reshape encounters.
Players can face relentless enemy waves, navigate boss rush sequences, and even contend with cooperative friendly fire, forcing tighter coordination in multiplayer sessions. This addition significantly boosts replayability. To match the heightened difficulty, the Soul Tree progression system now offers new rewards to those who survive these brutal scenarios.
Threads of Fate also evolves the core campaign itself. After completing the story, you can encounter optional Corrupted Regions, dangerous zones filled with various threats and substantial rewards. These areas introduce a layer of endgame tension, tempting experienced players to push their limits rather than settle for safer paths.
Customization and expression receive notable upgrades as well. Each playable character gains two new skins, alongside six additional emote sets. You can also begin runs with one of the powerful attack-granting Inspirations typically earned from boss fights, allowing for more varied builds from the outset.
