Medieval survival games are nothing new, and zombie games are hardly rare. But when you combine historically grounded settings, physics-driven combat, and a fully simulated city overrun by the undead, you get something far more intriguing. That is exactly what Kakao Games and Ocean Drive Studio are aiming for with God Save Birmingham, and a newly released gameplay video suggests the upcoming Closed Alpha Test could mark a major step forward for the ambitious project.
Set in a plague-ridden medieval Birmingham, the game blends survival simulation with brutal, physics-based melee combat. Every swing, shove, and barricade placement appears to be governed by dynamic systems rather than scripted animations, creating chaotic encounters where positioning and improvisation matter as much as raw weapon choice.
The Closed Alpha Test will roll out in two phases. The first phase, running from February 19 to February 23, 2026, will be limited to existing pre-alpha testers. The second phase, scheduled from February 26 to March 2, will expand access to both returning players and newcomers. Those interested in participating can sign up through the game’s Steam page.
New gameplay trailer highlights new weapons designed to take full advantage of the game’s physics systems. A scythe capable of dismemberment introduces crowd-control potential, while one-handed blunt weapons such as hammers offer tighter, more controlled strikes. In a comedic twist, even improvised items like chunks of meat can be used to fend off the so-called “Brummie” zombie horde.
Crafting systems have also been improved, allowing players to build tools and defensive options, while environmental destruction and barricading mechanics promise tense last-stand scenarios. Boarding up doors and fortifying buildings appear to be essential tactics rather than cosmetic features, reinforcing the sense of a living, reactive world.
