Events with Indie-Games: Digital Dragons Conference, Magnificon and Kraków Film Music Festival

If you enjoy independent indie game coverage, consider supporting Indie-Games.eu on Patreon. It helps keep the site independent.

It’s been quite a while since the last event we attended – namely, the Anime Symphony concert in January – and before we knew it, it was already May. And, as every year, the arrival of this month brings a flurry of major projects, to which IndieGames contributes as both an observer and a participant. So, we’re excited to announce that next week, we’ll be right in the thick of major events in the world of gaming and culture more broadly, returning to the Magnificon Expo and Digital Dragons Conference, which we’ve come to know well, and also making our debut at the Kraków Film Music Festival.

Once again at Europe’s leading B2B game development event

What’s game development like behind the scenes? Which upcoming indie games are worth checking out? And who will win this year’s prestigious award shaped like a dragon hatching from an egg? We’ll find out all of this at the Digital Dragons Conference, which will once again bring publishers, developers, and industry experts to Kraków.

During the lectures and various activities, participants will have the opportunity to meet and talk with representatives from major brands such as Epic Games, 11 bit studios, CD PROJEKT RED, and Valve. Of course, we won’t forget to visit the Indie Zone, where as many as 50 titles will be waiting for us to try out. And since some of the games nominated for this year’s awards have been featured and reviewed on our website, you can count on us to stay up to date on the winners, who, as usual, will be announced during the official ceremony on the second day of the event.

Games in Far Eastern Culture and Beyond

Magnificon Expo has become a regular fixture on our schedule, so anyone who reads our coverage of the event will know what to expect. However, given the record number of participants in the last winter edition and the many diverse attractions awaiting us there, we can certainly agree that this festival has a way of surprising us. The same seems to be true for the upcoming edition in May, where we found plenty of gaming-related highlights in the program.

Just as with the Digital Dragons Conference, there will be an opportunity to revisit one of last year’s biggest hits, namely Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which attendees will be able to hear about during a panel discussion on narrative creation. Other titles that fans will be able to explore in greater depth include games from the Persona series, Genshin ImpactHonkai: Star RailLeague of Legends, and Umamusume: Pretty Derby. Players will also be able to put their interests into practice in the gaming zone and during tournaments.

Music in the dialogue between media

On our website, we’ve also had the opportunity to broaden our musical horizons through video game soundtracks as well as other cultural works. Now we have the opportunity to take another look at this issue, but from a perspective we haven’t seen before. This will be possible thanks to our participation in the Kraków Film Music Festival, where we will have the opportunity to explore music from films and TV series, as well as other media that rely on storytelling through sound.

The festival shows that soundtrack composers were once viewed primarily as craftsmen working behind the scenes in recording studios. Today, they perform on the world’s biggest stages alongside pop stars, and their concerts draw tens of thousands of fans.

The event will feature a concert by, among others, Oscar-winning composer Volker Bertelmann (Hauschka), who composed the main title theme for the “Misty Marshes” season in the game Honor of Kings. In addition, to mark the 25th anniversary of the release of the first film in the Harry Potter series, fans of the franchise will be able to watch it accompanied by a live musical performance, with themes that have also been subtly incorporated into the Hogwarts Legacy soundtrack.
