Long Gone is an upcoming indie video game developed by Hillfort Games, a small studio led by solo developer Vin Hillfort. Announced in 2022, it’s a 3D pixel-art adventure set in a post-apocalyptic world, blending retro aesthetics with modern gameplay elements. Designed as a love letter to classic ‘90s adventure games, it’s planned for release on PC via Steam.

The story takes place decades after an unknown catastrophe has left the world in ruins. Players take on the role of a survivor trapped in an overgrown, decaying suburb frozen in time. The environment itself acts as a central character, with the possessions of former residents telling the story of lives abruptly cut short.

The game contrasts its dark, post-apocalyptic atmosphere with a lighter tone and touches of dark humor, as zombies casually wander the streets. Unlike survival-focused games, Long Gone emphasizes exploration and narrative rather than combat, with zombies serving more as environmental puzzles than real threats.

Long Gone is a point-and-click adventure where you explore fully interactive 3D houses and semi-2.5D streets, searching through drawers, cabinets, and boxes for items and secrets. The overgrown streets require light platforming skills, while puzzles are seamlessly integrated into the environment.

The inventory management system allows players to collect, combine, discard, or store items, encouraging experimentation to progress through the story. The central focus is on reconstructing the lives of the suburb’s former inhabitants through their forgotten belongings, creating an emotionally resonant and narratively rich experience.
