After more than six years of anticipation, Team Cherry’s long-awaited hit Hollow Knight: Silksong has reached a monumental milestone, attracting five million players within its first three days of release. While its status as one of Steam’s most wishlisted games hinted at its potential, the released data confirms a staggering level of success.
According to a report from Alinea Analytics, by September 4, 2025 the game had five million players. This impressive number includes a million players on consoles via Game Pass. On Steam alone, Silksong sold over three million copies, generating an estimated revenue of more than $50 million. Alinea attributes some of the hype to the game’s sporadic marketing and rare teasers, which helped build anticipation.
To put this achievement into perspective, Silksong sold more than twice the number of copies than this year’s top three indie hits combined—Schedule 1 (858,000), Peak (332,000), and R.E.P.O. (253,000). The biggest markets on Steam were the U.S. and China, with Russia, Japan, and Brazil rounding out the top five. On PlayStation, 30 percent of players were from North America, while East Asia and Western Europe each accounted for 14 percent.
