Creative puzzle games often stand out when they introduce a mechanic players have never seen before and Fresco appears to do exactly that. Developed by the new indie team Kelonia Games, the upcoming puzzle-adventure lets players literally step into ancient Egyptian wall paintings, transforming static temple art into a living, playable world.
However, these decorations are far more than simple scenery. At key moments, you can transition from controlling the archaeologist in full 3D to taking control of characters depicted within the wall art itself. These figures come to life in a 2D plane etched directly into the temple walls, creating a shift between dimensions.
In fact, progress depends on mastering both perspectives where puzzles often require you to observe the environment from one dimension and manipulate it from the other. Solving a problem in the 3D world might open new pathways for the 2D character, while actions taken inside the fresco can influence objects or mechanisms in the temple.
The game also introduces moments of danger. While exploring, you may encounter temple guardians, mythological threats, or puzzles that react in real time as the two worlds interact. Some sequences even involve combat elements where you must react quickly as dangers cross between the 2D and 3D environments.
Although a release date has not yet been announced, the project can be wishlisted on Steam.
