The creator behind some of Housemarque’s most acclaimed games is starting a new journey. Cosmic Division has officially launched in Finland under the leadership of Harry Krueger, a veteran developer best known for his work on Returnal, Nex Machina, and Resogun.
After nearly 15 years at Housemarque, Krueger is now leading a smaller, independent team with a clear vision. Rather than chasing massive studio expansion, Cosmic Division plans to embrace a “lean-and-mean” development philosophy focused on craftsmanship, rapid iteration, and sustainable growth.
The studio’s first project is already in pre-production and will be an original IP developed for PC and consoles. While specific details remain under wraps, the team says players can expect a gameplay-first experience combined with a story designed to leave a lasting emotional impact.
According to Krueger, every decision will be guided by a simple principle: do what’s best for the game. It’s an approach that has become increasingly appealing as more developers seek alternatives to the growing costs and complexity associated with large-scale AAA development.
The Helsinki-based studio has already secured seed funding and is actively looking for new talent, collaborators, and investment partners as development continues. While the team remains relatively small, its collective experience gives it a strong foundation from day one.
