This weekend, from Friday, May 29 to Sunday, May 31, the Video Game History Museum will celebrate its first anniversary with free guided tours and special gifts for all visitors. A special guest of the celebration will be internationally renowned game designer and Emmy Award winner Don Daglow, who will hold a lecture at the museum. You can buy the tickets here.
Over the past 12 months, 40,000 visitors from around the world have visited Draškovićeva 10, positioning the museum as an essential destination on Zagreb’s cultural and tourism map.
“It has been an exciting year for us, and we are grateful to everyone who supported us. I’m happy to see the museum come alive through its visitors and their reactions,” emphasized Damir Šlogar, the museum’s founder. “We will continue enriching the exhibition and bringing in distinguished guests so this space can remain a central hub for preserving and interpreting video games as cultural heritage,” he added.
The museum’s work so far has included a number of notable projects, including the first exhibition dedicated to the development of Croatian video games and the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award in game development, whose first recipient was engineer and professor Branimir Makanec. Membership in international organizations such as ICOM, NEMO, and EFGAMP further confirms the institution’s importance. During Zagreb Design Week, the museum also received an award for best interior design.
To mark the first anniversary, the museum is preparing a special program. From Friday through Sunday, all visitors will receive a gift, a strategy card game inspired by video games, and free expert-guided tours through the permanent exhibition.
On Monday, June 1 at 6 PM at Draškovićeva 10, Don Daglow will hold a lecture. A legend of the global gaming industry and one of the key figures in the early development of video games, Daglow currently serves as Director of Strategic Partnerships at The Strong National Museum of Play.
Winner of an Emmy Award in 2008, inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame in 2024, and recipient of the prestigious Game Developers Choice Lifetime Achievement Award in 2026, he is considered one of the most important creators in gaming history. Tickets are available through the following link.
The first anniversary marks the conclusion of a successful first year in which the Video Game History Museum became a recognizable meeting place for all generations, with ambitions and future plans that promise exciting new additions to the collection, exhibitions, and projects.
