BOMBANANA! launched on September 2 on Steam, and five days later, Lefto Studio is already celebrating 500,000 “monkeys.” The Istanbul-based developer also revealed that its three-player bomb-defusal game reached 20,000 concurrent players during its opening week.

Published by TARK, BOMBANANA! divides responsibility between three monkeys with very inconvenient limitations. The blind monkey can touch the bomb but cannot see its colors or screens, the mute monkey holds the manual but cannot speak, and the deaf monkey can see and talk without hearing either teammate.

Nobody has enough information to solve the bomb alone, turning every level into a mixture of gestures, restricted conversations and increasingly questionable interpretations of what someone pointing at a wire might mean.

The full release includes a Campaign with 30 handcrafted levels, a procedurally generated Endless mode and customizable challenges. Players can adjust timers, module combinations, hazards and allowed mistakes, while new locations include the familiar mobile workshop and an airplane. Exactly three players are required.

Its early success follows an unusually large Steam Next Fest performance. Lefto Studio says more than six million people played the demo, which became the event’s most-played title and helped BOMBANANA! pass one million wishlists before launch.

Steam reception is currently overwhelmingly positive, with 96 percent of more than 1,200 reviews recommending the game. Lefto Studio has also released an initial hotfix addressing voice-chat issues, although random crashes remain under investigation.
