New pre-alpha footage of Guardians of the Wall offers a closer look at what happens when up to four heavily armed heroes are sent beyond humanity’s last remaining fortress.
The short gameplay sequence moves between ruined villages and fog-covered forests as players fight waves of demonic humanoids using swords, firearms, grenades and special abilities. Objectives shown during the footage include hunting an archdemon and gathering essence, while an escalating threat meter warns players about an approaching event called the Eclipse.
Developed and published by two-person studio Boiling Bits, Guardians of the Wall is a dark-fantasy co-op action RPG with roguelite progression. The Wall has protected humanity from the Abyss for generations, but newly formed cracks are allowing its creatures to enter the surviving world.
Combat allows players to freely move between melee and ranged attacks while combining blocks, dashes, explosives and character-specific powers. Each Guardian has a different playstyle, ranging from frontline fighters to ranged specialists and elemental casters. Missions support solo play or groups of up to four players.
Temporary upgrades and weapon modifications are collected during individual raids, while surviving Guardians return to the Bastion with permanent resources. These materials can be used to craft weapons, improve abilities and unlock additional heroes. Missions combine handcrafted arenas with procedurally generated encounters, while larger events such as a Breach of the Wall are intended to permanently change the battlefield.
Guardians of the Wall entered its first Steam playtest on September 3 and is currently targeting a Q1 2027 release on PC.
