“Celestoidvania” LUCID Gets New Trailer and Demo, Coming to Consoles and PC in 2026

The upcoming 2D action-platformer LUCID has a new trailer and a public demo on Steam, setting the stage for its launch in Q1 2026. Developed by solo developer Eric Manahan of The Matte Black Studio and published by Apogee Entertainment, the game is being hailed as the world’s first “Celestoidvania”, a unique hybrid that blends the precise platforming of Celeste with the non-linear exploration of Metroidvania games.

The core of LUCID’s gameplay revolves around the protagonist Oenn, a young Sentinel who navigates a crystalline world called Aedyn. Oenn wields a set of abilities called Crystal Arts, which serve a dual purpose in both combat and mobility. By striking enemies or objects with his Crystal Blade, Spear, or Axe, Oenn can perform a move called “Crystal Chaining,” which refreshes his movement resources and allows him to stay airborne.

This system, inspired by the fluid movement in games like Celeste and Ori, creates a fast-paced, “flow-state” experience. The game also features a weapon wheel with a time-slowing mechanic, LUCID encourages you to explore its massive, interconnected overworld, which includes diverse environments like the frigid Onyx Ridge and the claustrophobic Crystal Caverns. You will solve platforming puzzles and revisit areas with new abilities to uncover secrets and optional challenges.

The game is slated to release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
