The future of Xbox hardware may be closer than expected. Microsoft has officially teased its next-generation gaming system, codenamed Project Helix, marking the first major announcement from the company’s new gaming chief and signaling a bold attempt to merge console simplicity with PC-level flexibility. While details remain limited, the reveal suggests that the next Xbox could become a powerful hybrid platform capable of running both Xbox and PC games.

The announcement came from Asha Sharma, the newly appointed CEO of Microsoft Gaming, who shared the news in a post on X. Sharma confirmed that Project Helix is the internal codename for Xbox’s next console and described it as a system designed to “lead in performance” while playing both Xbox and PC titles. The concept hints at a major shift in Microsoft’s hardware strategy, aiming to unify the console ecosystem with the flexibility traditionally associated with PC gaming.

Sharma stepped into the leadership role only last week following the retirement of long-time Xbox chief Phil Spencer, who spent more than a decade guiding the platform through major initiatives such as Xbox Game Pass, backward compatibility, and the launch of the Xbox One X. Her early announcement signals that Microsoft intends to quickly outline a new direction for the brand.

Although official specifications have not been revealed, early reports suggest the console could be powered by an AMD system-on-chip codenamed “Magnus,” potentially featuring an AI-focused neural processing unit. Such hardware could enable advanced features like AI-driven upscaling, improved performance optimization, and automated clip creation. The system may also allow optional access to a Windows-based environment, opening the door to PC storefronts like Steam or Epic Games Store within a console-style “Xbox Full Screen Experience.”

More information could arrive soon. Sharma hinted that discussions with developers and partners will continue during her first appearance at the upcoming Game Developers Conference next week, where Microsoft is expected to elaborate on its next-generation strategy.
