OKU blends Ukiyo-e art with Haiku, and it’s a meditative game you shouldn’t miss

I’d love to know how German studio Irox Games came up with the idea to combine the Ukiyo-e woodblock art style with Haiku, a short Japanese poem. This blend perfectly fits the game’s theme as a meditative exploration title that invites you on a journey of spiritual growth. While a release date is still to be announced, OKU is coming to PC via Steam.

The core of OKU’s experience is its fluid traversal and poetic mechanics. The game encourages a slow, rhythmic pace, rewarding observation and patience over spectacle. As you glide across landscapes, from misty mountain trails to bamboo forests, you collect words and phrases from hidden mystic spirits. These discoveries allow you to compose Haiku-like poems that capture the beauty of nature.

The poems are not just for reflection; they are also interactive tools. You can use them to unlock forgotten paths, awaken dormant spirits, or revitalize seasonal wastelands. The game even allows you to share your personalized verses with others online, fostering a sense of collaborative discovery.
