Released just last week, Retro Rewind – Video Store Simulator didn’t take long to win over Steam users. Much of its appeal comes from its familiar store clerk simulation loop, combined with the nostalgic charm of running a 90s video rental shop. Developer Blood Pact Studios has successfully tapped into that feeling, announcing that the game surpassed 100,000 copies sold just days after launch, while also earning an overwhelmingly positive reception on Steam.

In our review, we noted that “Retro Rewind perfectly scratches that itch for anyone who wants to run their own video rental store: it’s simple, engaging, and incredibly relaxing once you get into the groove.” However, it’s clear the game could benefit from more content.

Fortunately, the developers have listened to player feedback and confirmed a series of free post-launch updates. Backroom storage, controller support, a VHS repair station, community-voted features, and even video games are all planned for the coming months.

The game also reached a peak of over 12,000 concurrent players during the weekend, a strong showing for a title in this niche. That level of activity suggests more than just initial curiosity, it indicates players are sticking around, engaging with the mechanics, and finding something worth investing their time in.
