The debut title from SenseGames, AI Limit, is a soulslike adventure set in a post-apocalyptic future, where the protagonist, a Blader named Arrisa, explores the world, fights enemies, and searches for signs of life. The game tackles ethical questions surrounding artificial intelligence and its impact on humanity, reflecting current debates about technology.

In an interview with Game Rant, producer Yang Bin shared some of the inspirations behind the game’s creative direction, highlighting the decision to adopt a cel-shaded visual style. Despite clear influences from the Soulslike genre, AI Limit introduces innovative mechanics, such as the “Sync Rate” system in place of a traditional stamina bar, making combat more dynamic and rewarding precision.

The post-apocalyptic landscape of AI Limit is brought to life through cel-shading, creating striking visuals. Bin explained that this choice was partly inspired by a love for the manga BLAME! but also practical — the style appeals to a younger audience and was well-suited for a first project from a studio with a limited budget.

While BLAME! had a major influence, Bin noted that the development team also drew inspiration from other cult titles like Mad Max, Borderlands, BioShock, Fallout, and Metro Exodus. The combination of these elements shapes the game’s unique identity, blending Soulslike combat with narrative depth and a visually expressive world.

Instead of a classic stamina system, AI Limit introduces the “Sync Rate” mechanic — the more you attack without taking damage, the stronger you become. This system encourages careful observation of enemy movements, reflecting the team’s preference for tactically demanding combat systems. While the game clearly belongs to the Soulslike genre, these innovations ensure that AI Limit is not just another copy of established formulas.

As Bin concludes, every game carries the imprint of its creators’ experiences. In the case of AI Limit, it’s a mix of dark cyberpunk atmosphere, intense combat, and a narrative that questions the role of technology in society. This combination is expected to appeal both to fans of challenging gameplay and to players who value story and visual expressiveness.
