Starsand Island Removed From Steam Over Unauthorized Content Issue

Cozy life simulation game Starsand Island has been temporarily removed from the Steam store yesterday. The delisting happened after the developers discovered an oversight from the planning phase. Apparently, certain core visual elements from a classic title had been used without proper authorization in one of the game’s mini-game sections, specifically within an in-game arcade where players can enjoy playable mini-games.

The studio quickly issued a public apology on their official social channels, explaining that they had already submitted a revised game build to Steam with the unauthorized content completely removed. They emphasized that the removal is only temporary, and once Steam completes its review and approves the update, the game should return to the storefront for purchase and download.

Existing owners who already have the game installed can continue playing without interruption, and all player progress, save files, and in-game assets will remain fully preserved after the update. As a gesture of goodwill and to make up for the inconvenience, the developers announced that they will release a free DLC called the “Shining Star” Outfit Set to all players within the next seven business days.

Community speculation, based on comments in replies and discussions, points to the issue likely involving a Tetris-inspired mini-game in the arcade, though the official statement does not name the specific classic title. For those unfamiliar, Starsand Island launched into Early Access earlier in 2026 and had built a decent following thanks to its relaxing farming, building, romance, and customization elements, before this hiccup.
