The Silent Jungle Reimagines the Vietnam War as Survival Horror

The Vietnam War is the setting for a dark and unsettling new indie game called The Silent Jungle, currently in development for PC via Steam. Inspired by classic survival horror games, it avoids fast action and heroic power fantasy in favor of slow tension, fear, and limited resources. While the game does not yet have a release date, its concept points to a heavy and emotional journey where the horrors of war take on a supernatural form.

Players follow the story of Stephen, an American soldier who wakes up alone and badly injured after a deadly ambush deep in the jungle. His squad is gone, and the area is covered in a thick fog that never seems to fade. As Stephen searches for a way out, the world around him begins to change. The jungle twists into something unnatural, filled with lost spirits and disturbing visions shaped by pain, fear, and memories of violence.

True to its old-school roots, The Silent Jungle offers little guidance. You must pay close attention to conversations, letters, and notes scattered throughout the environment to understand what is happening and how to survive. Small details matter, and every object found adds to a larger mystery. Progress depends on careful observation and patience, making exploration just as important as combat.

Supplies are rare, forcing you to think carefully before every fight. Combat is slow and tense, with movement reducing accuracy and too much physical effort draining Stephen’s stamina. When his strength runs low, even simple threats become deadly. On top of enemy encounters, the jungle itself is dangerous, with deadly traps, thick terrain, and narrow tunnel systems where danger can appear without warning.
