SakuSaku Witch Turns Adorable Bunny Plushies Into a Magical Conspiracy

SakuSaku Witch looks like a cheerful SNES-era platformer until its villagers begin transforming into rabbit monsters. Spear Soft has opened the game’s Steam page and is currently targeting a PC release via Steam sometime in 2027.

You control Oreko, an energetic young witch whose sister Lilie has been kidnapped by a mysterious organization. Her search leads toward Bunplush Corp., a plush-toy manufacturer potentially connected to the increasingly fluffy crisis spreading across the Kingdom of SakuSaku.

Movement and combat are intentionally straightforward: run, jump and cast spells. However, the stages won’t always be as friendly as the artwork suggests. Some contain surprise traps designed to catch players during their first attempt, although instant respawning and frequent checkpoints should prevent failure from becoming tedious.

Five worlds are planned, each containing regular stages, a mid-boss and a main boss. Players must collect Bunny Coins and bribe checkpoint gatekeepers before entering boss levels, which is certainly one of the more honest explanations for locking progression.

Oreko can temporarily strengthen her magic, enter Bunny-Ear doors containing optional minigames and purchase helpful items. Certain sections transform her into a vulnerable frog capable of exploring underwater, while collecting a broom abruptly turns the platformer into a side-scrolling shoot ’em up.

Spear Soft openly cites Mario, Donkey Kong Country and Goemon among its inspirations. That influence is easy to recognize, but the strange corporate conspiracy and constant mechanical detours should help SakuSaku Witch avoid feeling like a simple nostalgia exercise. Cute rabbit enemies are common enough; corrupting an entire kingdom through plush toys is considerably more memorable.
