Opening a disappointing card pack may hurt slightly less when you can sell its contents. Studio Shimazu has revealed Duck Fest, a trading card game in which cards used to build decks and battle opponents can also be bought and sold through the Steam Community Market.

Every card carries both a rarity and condition grade. That means collectors won’t only be hunting for a powerful card needed by their deck; they may also want a cleaner, more valuable version to display or place on the market.

Battles are currently designed around one-on-one competition. Players fight for flags across Shallows and Water areas, choosing on each turn whether to commit a card or hold it back. Higher totals create an advantage, while individual effects can overturn the result and reclaim a flag before the round ends.

Playing against Steam friends provides rewards regardless of the outcome. Victors are guaranteed a rare card, while defeated players receive coins that can be spent on additional packs. It’s a progression loop that feeds directly back into collecting, trading and rebuilding a deck.

Duck Fest will initially arrive through Steam Early Access with Story Mode and private online matches. Studio Shimazu expects that period to last approximately one year and plans to add public matchmaking, Dragon and Magician card packs, three- and four-player battles and two-versus-two Tag Duels. Its price is expected to increase at full release.
