Bad Summer is a horror romance visual novel created by a two-woman indie development team, which has officially launched its Kickstarter campaign. Inspired by popular titles like The Quarry and Until Dawn, the game is also celebrating with its biggest demo update yet on Steam. The developers have poured years into this project, handling everything from writing and coding to music and voice direction.

The new demo update brings the game closer to its final form. It includes new horror scenes and dialogue, expanded and polished romance routes, more voice lines, and improved visuals and user interface. The team has also added hidden easter eggs, fixed bugs, and generally polished the experience.

In Bad Summer, you play as Jenny, a shy and slightly awkward high school graduate on her first job as a camp counselor. Jenny, a talented musician, is hoping to break out of her shell, make new friends, and find love. You must guide her journey of self-discovery, helping her face her insecurities and embrace her talents.

You’ll need to use your detective skills with unique phone call mini-games and rely on your intuition to tell the difference between humans and the horrors lurking nearby. The world of Bad Summer is full of jump scares, unsettling “analog horror” sequences, and a story that includes a fully voiced cast in certain sections. The game also features a branching narrative where your choices have real consequences: you’ll have to decide if you want to save yourself, save your friends, or make sacrifices.
