Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 brought a breath of fresh air to the gaming industry and showed that AA titles can achieve success. The game was released on April 24 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, selling over one million copies and reaching a peak of 121,000 concurrent players on Steam. This turn-based RPG shows no signs of slowing down, and lead writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen recently hinted that DLC might already be in the works.
In an Instagram message shared on NeoGAF, Svedberg-Yen responded to a fan inquiry about DLC, stating that the team is still absorbing the game’s huge success but that they would “love to do more.” She added that given the extremely positive reception, the “odds are good” for DLC. The game’s open world, The Continent, offers space for new areas, making content additions via DLC a logical continuation.
The game’s success, despite its simultaneous release with Oblivion Remastered, confirms its appeal, with a “Very Positive” rating on Steam based on 25 thousand reviews. This achievement is even more significant for the small Sandfall team, which numbers approximately 30 developers according to IGN (although the exact number of people who worked on the game has not been officially released), and their readiness for DLC shows they are taking fan desires into account.
Set in an eerie world inspired by the Belle Époque, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 follows the members of Expedition 33 on their quest for the Paintress, a mysterious entity who awakens every year to write a number on her monolith, erasing all people of that age. This year’s number is 33, signaling a perilous mission for the team. The game blends turn-based combat with real-time mechanics, allowing players to dodge, block, and parry while linking combos and targeting enemy weak points.
