PEAK Clones Are Getting Out of Hand

Share:

A social media post on X by user Hex has brought attention to a game on PlayStation called Peaked Climbing, which bears a striking resemblance to the popular co-op climbing game PEAK. The original game, developed by Landfall Games and AGGRO CRAB, recently announced a major content update, but is now facing a potential intellectual property issue.

Peaked Climbing features visual similarities to PEAK, including character designs and a recognizable bridge setting. These details have raised concerns about a possible intellectual property violation. With the rise of AI tools, asset theft and game cloning have become a growing issue in the gaming industry.

The situation escalated when Landfall Games responded to the X post, indicating that legal action might be pursued. The online discussion also brought up other instances of alleged asset theft, including a blue, spiky enemy in Peaked Climbing that resembles a Koopa from Nintendo’s games. This highlights a broader issue of game cloning, with platforms like Roblox often cited for hosting similar knockoffs.

The indie gaming industry relies heavily on the protection of original content, and these incidents pose a significant challenge. In a strong statement, the developers of PEAK have publicly stated that they “would rather you pirate our game than play this microtransaction-riddled Roblox slop ripoff,” underscoring their frustration with the situation.
