The Metroidvania and platformer ReSetna arrived last Friday on PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch. Initial player impressions on Steam are positive, and while we are working on a full review, here are three reasons why you should consider buying this game.
The first thing that immediately stands out is the great variety of zones, there are seven in the game, with each one having its own atmosphere, enemies, and bosses to overcome. While it doesn’t reach the depth of titles like Hollow Knight or Blasphemous, ReSetna offers a faster and more dynamic adventure, focused on action and exploration. The movement mechanics are excellently executed: a dash, air-dash, double jump, wall jump, and teleportation between checkpoints are gradually unlocked as you progress through the game.
The second thing worth highlighting is the boss fights, which are a true joy. While regular enemies don’t stand out much, the game introduces a parry system and great freedom for experimentation, which makes these fights far more accessible. Each boss has unique attacks and requires a customized strategy for victory. Furthermore, you can quickly return and continue the fight if you happen to be defeated by a boss.
The game’s third distinctive feature is a unique upgrade system, based on chips that you assemble into a Tetris-like grid. This allows you to customize your playstyle to your liking. The game features multiple types of currency, which you earn every time you defeat enemies, and you can upgrade your abilities in the main hub. An added plus are the three different weapon styles, which add variety to the combat. The weapons are unlocked gradually, meaning you will become stronger as the game progresses.
