Puppergeist is an upcoming game that blends a rhythm challenge with a visual novel to create a heartwarming story. It will be developed and published by Serenity Forge, nown for titles like Doki Doki Literature Club Plus!, To the Moon, and BAD END THEATER. Announced today during the ID@Xbox Fall 2025 Showcase, the game features emotional storytelling and musical rhythm challenges set in a pixel-art underworld.
Players take on the role of a witch named Claire, who journeys through the “Doggie Underworld” to find her lost puppy. Along the way, she makes friends with the ghostly dogs she meets through stories and rhythm mini-games. She encounters all kinds of dog spirits: loyal hounds, playful terriers, and wise old mutts sharing sad stories of lives that ended too soon. Each spirit tells a touching, short tale about friendship, love, loyalty, and loss.
As Claire talks with the dog spirits, you’ll read branching dialogue and check her journal entries. You can uncover deeper stories by paying attention to the environment, like following glowing paw-prints or listening for barks. You can also collect optional lore bits called “spirit echoes” to unlock bonus backstories.
To make progress and lift moods, you must succeed in the various dog-themed mini-games. These rhythm challenges might have you tapping to the beat of a husky’s howl, matching combos in a border collie’s herding jam, or performing freestyle duets with a ghostly greyhound. There are over 20 encounters, each featuring unique musical tracks, remixes, increasing difficulty, and bonus multipliers for perfect attempts.
It’s coming to PC via Steam and Xbox Series X/S, with a release date likely set for 2026 based on similar Serenity Forge projects.
