After several delays, studio SIGONO has announced when we’ll finally be able to dive into a world of photography and ghosts. OPUS: Prism Peak launches on March 26 this year for PC via Steam and for Nintendo Switch, and a new trailer once again highlights the game’s central themes of memory, loss, and farewell through the story of a photographer and a girl without memories.

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, OPUS is an emotionally powerful series that includes titles such as OPUS: Rocket of Whispers and OPUS: Echo of Starsong. The new entry is set in a haunting and ethereal region known as the Dusklands, where we take on the role of a weary photographer trapped in this world.

You travel alongside a mysterious girl who has completely lost her memory, and the core of the experience revolves around using an old analog camera to photograph ghosts and scenes from the past. Photography serves as the main way to interact with the environment, uncovering hidden stories, framing meaningful moments, adjusting exposure/focus/filters, and gradually piecing together the protagonist’s forgotten connections and the reasons for his entrapment in this liminal space.

Overall, if you enjoyed the quiet, sincere storytelling of previous OPUS games, or appreciate titles that use mechanics like photography for emotional discovery (in a similar vein to What Remains of Edith Finch or To the Moon), this looks like a very promising continuation of SIGONO’s distinctive style.
