MOLE is a newly revealed psychological horror game developed by the small studio Off Black Creations and published by Oro Interactive. Set inside a colossal, aging post-war drilling machine known as the Mole, the game places you in the role of the last surviving operator in a forgotten, devastated world. Following the release of a free demo in January 2026 on Steam, the game is now building early momentum ahead of its planned full launch in Q2 2026.
Rather than relying on frequent jump scares or combat, MOLE focuses on slow-burning tension and psychological unease. Its inspirations are clear in games like Mouthwashing and Iron Lung, which emphasize confinement and vulnerability over spectacle. In MOLE, fear emerges from the constant awareness of being trapped inside a failing machine, far from any help, with no certainty about what lies ahead.
Gameplay revolves around hands-on, simulation-style tasks that reinforce this sense of fragility. Players are responsible for repairing damaged systems, monitoring pressure levels, maintaining structural integrity, and navigating tight mechanical corridors illuminated by harsh red emergency lighting. Every malfunction feels dangerous, and every repair becomes a test of composure.
As the descent continues, MOLE gradually shifts from grounded industrial horror to something more surreal and disturbing. Religious imagery, stained-glass-like visions, and strange mechanical hallucinations begin to appear. The environment starts to feel unreliable, and you are left to question whether what you are seeing is real or a product of exhaustion, guilt, and mounting psychological strain.
