German indie studio Cobalt Lane has released a new trailer and Steam demo for Imprinted, a slow-burning psychological thriller played entirely through a simulated computer operating system. Both were presented during the latest Convergence Game Showcase.

Imprinted follows Vincent, a technician who repairs other people’s audio but struggles to view himself as an artist. His latest assignment involves restoring damaged cassette recordings created by Viola Fossati, an elusive musician active during the 1970s.

What begins as a routine restoration job gradually becomes an investigation into occult events in northern Italy. As Vincent recovers Viola’s lost music, he falls deeper into a dark spiral shaped by creativity, obsession and his own insecurities.

Players conduct the investigation through a fully operational virtual desktop. They can search files, read old emails, browse the internet and experiment with different audio programs. Vincent’s complicated dating history and personal connections can also be uncovered by examining the information stored across his computer.

Imprinted was created by game composer turned independent developer Filippo Beck Peccoz. Several of its items come directly from his own life, including old photographs, home movies, unfinished songs and an archive of cassette tapes.
