The announcement trailer shown during the Triple-I Initiative Showcase confirmed that Slay the Spire 2 will launch in 2025. We know that the game will be available on PC, and it is highly likely that it will also arrive on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and iOS and Android devices.

The Triple-I Initiative indie showcase was a 45-minute digital event featuring numerous indie developers who highlighted both established titles and those from emerging studios. Among the revealed projects was Slay the Spire 2, a game that will once again combine roguelike exploration, permadeath, and progressive deck-building. However, very little is known about the title so far.

New Characters and Enemies

Developers have confirmed that a new set of killers will join the character roster, including returning faces such as the Ironclad and the Silent. After 1,000 years, the Spire has reopened, awakening the giant alien whale known as Neow. This creature appears at the beginning of each run in the original game, offering various items before you begin your climb. This means you can now expect entirely different beings and monsters.

According to the game’s lore, the four characters were believed to be condemned to fight for eternity, yet Defect and Watcher do not appear in the first trailer. Although they may return later on, only three characters are confirmed at the moment. The trailer shows the Ironclad and the Silent visiting a shop and exploring new environments. As the duo approaches the entrance to the Spire, they are joined by a third mysterious figure resembling a floating skeleton with a scythe.

According to additional details found on the Slay the Spire 2 Steam page, this third character is known as the Necrobinder. This character is unique in that he starts with only 35 health. He is described as a wandering lich who binds forgotten corpses and relies on his trusty left hand, Osty, in battle.

In Slay the Spire 2, the Cleave card now shows a mushroom split in half by an axe, suggesting it now deals heavy damage to single targets based on the new artwork. Two returning cards are Ghostly Armor and Shrug It Off, both very similar to their original versions. Molten Fist is the first new card spotted, though its effect remains unknown. It costs 1 mana and will likely deal damage. Finally, the new Hellraiser card is a rare power card that costs 3 mana. Although its effect is not shown, the artwork features the Ironclad surrounded by swords rising from the ground.

Switch to Godot Engine, Possible New Mechanics

Mega Crit has also confirmed that it will no longer use Unity after the fiasco that occurred last year. This means that Slay the Spire 2 has been fully migrated off Unity and will instead run on Godot, a free and open-source cross-platform engine. Many indie games are developed using Godot, so this will not prevent Slay the Spire 2 from releasing on multiple platforms.

One screenshot shows the option for players to enchant a card with a “cursed” effect, suggesting that the game will allow permanent buffs or debuffs to be added to cards between combat encounters. Mega Crit Games also promises to reveal more features and new ways to play as the game’s launch approaches.

That is everything we currently know about Slay the Spire 2. We will continuously update this article as soon as new information becomes available.
