Why We’re Launching Patreon And How You Can Support Independent Journalism

If you enjoy independent indie game coverage, consider supporting Indie-Games.eu on Patreon. It helps keep the site independent.

Indie-Games.eu has always been built around one simple idea: covering games honestly, without paywalls, pressure, or hidden agendas. Reviews, previews, and interviews on the site are freely accessible to everyone, and that will not change. At the same time, running an independent games website takes time, resources, care and that’s where Patreon comes in.

This article is not an ad, but an explanation.

How Indie-Games.eu Works Today

Indie-Games.eu is run independently. We don’t charge developers for coverage, we don’t sell reviews, and we don’t lock content behind subscriptions. Our goal has always been to highlight interesting games, give honest opinions, and treat both players and developers fairly.

As the site has grown, so has the workload. Reviews take longer to prepare properly, interviews require coordination and research, and retrospectives demand time that isn’t always visible on the surface. We also want to fairly compensate contributors for their work instead of relying purely on unpaid passion.

Why Patreon and Why Now

Patreon allows readers who value independent games journalism to support it directly. Not through intrusive ads, not through sponsored opinions, but through voluntary support from people who already read, watch, or listen to our work.

Importantly, Patreon does not replace our public content. All reviews, articles, and videos remain free and accessible. Patreon is about:

  • Early access and additional context
  • Behind-the-scenes insight into how coverage is made
  • Giving readers a voice in interviews and discussions
  • Supporting sustainable, independent editorial work

In short: Patreon helps us spend more time doing things properly.

What Supporters Get And What Will Never Change

Patreon supporters get access to early spoiler-free impressions before the game launch, retro gaming discussions, weekly indie news commentary (newsletter), and the chance to participate directly by submitting questions for developers and publishers we interview.

What will never change:

  • Reviews will not be paywalled
  • Coverage will not be influenced by Patreon
  • Support will never buy a positive opinion
  • Transparency will always come first

If Patreon ever affected how we cover games, it wouldn’t be worth having.

Supporting Independent Journalism (Even Without Patreon)

Reading, sharing articles, commenting, and engaging with our content already helps more than you might think. Patreon is simply an option for those who want to go a step further and directly support the work behind Indie-Games.eu.

Independent games deserve independent coverage. Patreon helps make that sustainable.

If you decide to support us – thank you.
If not. we’re still glad you’re here.
